59 MPGE PROMISED IN EUROPE FOR ALL-NEW SEVEN-SEAT SUV
Volvo finally announced production specifications for its new four-cylinder Drive-E engine that'll be offered in the 2015 XC90 T8. The company says that the new twin-power engine, helped by an electric motor, will make the Volvo XC90 T8 the world's most powerful and cleanest SUV, with a number of powertrain technologies making 59 mpge (in the European cycle) possible while delivering plenty of power.
First, the important figures: The XC90 T8 will produce 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, allowing sprints to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds. Making that possible will be a 2.0-liter turbo- and supercharged four-cylinder engine making 318 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, while an electric motor positioned on the rear axle will provide an extra 82 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. These two powerplants will be connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox which will send power to all four wheels.
